GCSU

At GCSU Theatre, we provide first-rate theatre training within the context of a well-rounded liberal arts education. Philosophically, we believe that "smaller is better." If you study theatre here, you will be part of a growing yet highly accessible department. You will get to know your teachers well and work closely with them both in and out of the classroom. While we are active in professional organizations within our respective fields, teaching is our first priority. We work hard to prepare students to enter the world, and the expertise of our faculty allows us to offer a range of classes that can matches the curriculum of much larger departments.
GCSU produces four to six productions every academic year. During a four year rotation, you will be exposed to a wide variety of plays including musicals, Shakespeare, contemporary cutting-edge works, new plays, Greek, Moliere, the great European masters, and many, many more. Recent productions have included Pippin, The Illusion, The Taming of the Shrew, An Evening of Pinter, On the Verge, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Beggars Opera, and All In the Timing. Our theatre program is committed to finding diverse works to produce and to non-traditional, color-blind casting; this means that the best actor is cast in the role regardless of their ethnicity as long as such casting does not destroy the playwright's intent. Our students are encouraged to actively participate in the American College Theatre Festival, the Georgia Theatre Conference, the Southeastern Theatre Conference, United States Institute of Theatre Technicians, and other various casting and interviewing agencies throughout the United States. We also urge our students to study abroad and GCSU actively supports these programs.
