Upon the stage of a theatre can be represented in character, evil and its consequences, good and its happy results and rewards; the weakness and the follies of man, the magnanimity of virtue and the greatness of truth.

One of the sacred responsibilities of the artist is to help us experience vicariously some of the pain and bitterness that are part of this mortal existence, so that our hearts may become more receptive to the spirit of Christ, more hardened to evil and its consequences, and more softened to its victims, and so that we may avoid experiencing directly the sins and stains of the world.
