The Acting Program At...

St. Ambrose

Theatre studies at St. Ambrose have the energy and excitement that are hallmarks of the performing arts. Students study all aspects of theatre at SAU. Since this kind of learning can't be confined to the classroom, there are plenty of opportunities to hone skills in musical, experimental, traditional and children's theatre productions.

The theatre program has long been recognized for a production schedule that provides numerous and varied opportunities in acting, directing, design and technical experiences in which students become actively involved throughout their course of study. A strong theatre history, literature, criticism curriculum enhances and supports the production program.

Courses include:  Acting, Stagecraft, Costume Design for Theatre, Directing, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Introduction to Musical Theatre and Theatre History I and II.

The Studio Theatre

The mission of the Studio Theatre is to provide St. Ambrose University students with additional performance, design and directorial opportunities. The intimate size of the theatre (50 seats) also allows for performances of a smaller alternative nature that would be better served in such a venue. In addition, the Studio Theatre provides opportunities for student playwrights and other original work to be debuted. Each academic year usually contains three Studio Theatre performances.
